Cubs - 19th December 2013
Hi all,
Just a reminder for you to bring your £2 Secret Santa present to the final Cubs of 2012 on Wednesday. If you haven't got yours yet, then hop into Santa's sleigh to your nearest shop and get hunting!
On Wednesday, I will also be reviewing people's badge work so if anyone thinks they should have had a badge which has never materialised, note it down and let me know then.
If you can't remember who you were meant to be getting a Secret Santa present for, then email me at: webmaster@13thcarlisle.org and I'll remind you.
Regards,
Ben Hodgkiss

Thank you folks!
Thanks to everyone who helped either yesterday or today at the Cubs Ratlingate sleepover. Despite the mud and rain we had a great time. We also inducted Neil Spark into the bacon hour! We are always looking for new help and support, all that you need to help by sleeping over is a CRB. If you would like to get one for Cubs then please speak to me.
So special thanks to Mick Goodman for his cooking, Micheal Neile for keeping me sane, Neil Spark for volunteering to stay over and Gill Dufton, Emma Walton, Karen Beattie, Steve Halford, Pam McCaig and Amanda Ward for helping to clean up - Ratlingate has never been so clean in such a short time.

November Sleepover Update
As promised on Wednesday here a few final updates before
this weekend’s Sleepover at Ratlingate.
We will meet at Ratlingate between 1.30 and 2.00pm. Please bring suitable clothes including your
wellies, waterproofs and hat/gloves. You
should come in youruniform and bring warm clothes to wear which you don’t mind
getting wet or dirty. Bring extra socks
too because cold wet feet give you a miserable experience.
If you want to review what equipment you need go to http://13thcarlisle.org/13thCarlisle/Letters_files/General%20Kit%20List.pdf
where you can download our general kit list.
Other essentials include the five t’s : torch, tea towel,
traybake, toothbrush and towel!
All Cubs should also bring along the completed medical form
that can be downloaded from http://13thcarlisle.org/13thCarlisle/Letters_files/Camp%20Medical%20Form.pdf
.
We will be spending some of the time making different types of cooking fires (if its not too wet) along with games and challenges through the evening.
Cub Timetable Changes - November and December 2012

taking place between now and the end of term.
Wednesday 28th
November – No Meeting
Thursday 29th
November – Secret Santa Shopping.
Come down to the Scout Hut with a parent to collect your Secret Santa
name and £2. You’re then free to go
shopping to get your gift. These need to
be returned on Wednesday 19th December on our Secret Santa night.
Sunday 2nd
December – Church Parade at St. Michaels.
We still await further details but we will meet at 9.20am at the
Church.
Wednesday 5th
December – No Meeting
Thursday 6th
December – District Carol Service at the Cathedral. We will meet at the Scout Hut at 6.15pm
prompt before walking to the Cathedral.
This is a full uniform occasion (school trousers and shoes please.) All Cubs
are asked to bring a wrapped gift which will be donated to charity.
Wednesday 12th
December – No meeting (this coincides with the Stanwix Christmas
performance.
Wednesday 19th
December – Secret Santa Night. We
will meet at 6.30pm as normal and we will be investing a number of new Cubs
that evening and start clearing our badge backlog!
I hope that this brings our changes up to date.

Scouts Charity Bagpack
Dear Parents,
The Scouts have been asked, and have agreed to help raise
funds for The Mayor of Carlisle’s
Charity Fund 2012/13 with an all-day bag pack on Saturday 17th November at Morrison’s
on Scotland Road, Carlisle. We would like all Scouts, and parents if
possible, each to do a two-hour stint. Refreshments will be provided.
There are four 2-hour sessions starting at 9am, 11am, 1pm and
3pm. A rota will be available at this weeks Scout meeting for
you to book your space!
“I am delighted that the 13th Carlisle Scout Group has agreed to raise
money for The Mayor of Carlisle’s Charity Fund 2012/13. The Main Charities
that will benefit are Eden House, which cares for Young Children, and also the
local Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society. I am sure we can all relate to
both of these Charities, and any money raised will be gratefully
received. I look forward to helping on the day as well.
With best
wishes, Councillor David Wilson, Mayor of Carlisle”
If you have any questions then please speak to a Leader or contact Kenneth Boom on 07743 706807 or email Kenneth.boom@virgin.net. Thank you.

Creative Challenge - Woggle making
All the Cubs have been challenged to create their own woggle before this Wednesdays meeting. They will need to bring it with them and is part of the Creative Challenge. (It can also be part of the Artists badge.) There will be a prize for the most original woggle that they can come up with.
Cubs- Activity Badge Challenge
All of the Cubs were asked two weeks agao to choose an activity badge which they could complete on their own before November 7th. The sting in the tail was that if they didn't choose a badge they had to complete the Home Help badge instead.
On Wednesday all of the Cubs told me what they had chosen to do and excuses cut no ice with me - if they hadn't chosen then it was the Home Help badge. The best excuse for not choosing was "I couldn't look on the internet because I was playing games online!" Hodgkiss 1 - 0 Henry
All the Cubs have told me the badge that they will be undertaking. These are the abdges that I will subsequently order.
On Wednesday 7th November all of the Cubs should bring the evidence that they have completed their chosen badge to Cubs. This can include photographs, witness statements and any artifacts they have produced.
Although we often complete activity badges (the red round ones that go on your sleeve) during Cubs they can all be easily completed with a little effort on the individual Cubs paart. All they need to do is bring the evidence to Cubs and we'll happily award a badge.
I look forward to presenting a clutch of artist and various other activity badges.

Urgent need for wellies!!
The field outside the hut is extremely wet. Can Cubs come in their wellies and bring their trainers too! This should be the norm until the path is once again reinstated.

Wednesday 10th October - Book Reader badge
Don't forget that we're completing our Book Reader badge tonight. To prove that you read regularly the Cubs must bring their current reading book and reading record/homework diary. Don't worry though, no reading tests tonight!
We will also be asking the cubs to select an activity badge that they can complete on their own before the start of new half term. Some parents have suggested the Home Help badge (making beds, keeping rooms tidy, basic cooking, hoovering etc.) and this is the fall back unless they can come up with someting better individually!
See you all later!

Cubs - Hadrian's Wall Hike September 22nd
A few reminders for tomorrow's hike.
We will meet on Strand Road at 8.50am as the buses will be leaving at 9.00am. Each Cub should pack a rucksack for the day which should contain their lunch, a spare fleece or jumper, spare pair of socks, small torch and waterproofs. They will be given a map to follow on the hike. They should also have a hat, gloves and a small torch. This may seem unnecessary but it enables the Cubs to simulate what is good practice as they get older.
If it is warm then you may wish to put in some sun-cream.
You need not wear your uniform but all Cubs should bring their necker and wear it.
Please make sure that your child has enough to drink, walking can be a thirsty business!
If the Cubs want to bring some money for a drink or ice-cream then that is up to them (and their parents of course!)
We will be back in Carlisle between 4.45pm and 5.00pm and ready to return the Cubs to your care.
We'll see you tomorrow.

Hadrian’s Wall Hike – Saturday 22nd September 2012
Dear
Parents,
On
Saturday 22nd September the Cubs will be hiking along Hadrian’s Wall
to Housesteads Fort and Museum. The day
has been designed to allow the Cubs the opportunity to put last terms
map-reading and navigation to good use.
A
bus will be leaving Trinity School at 9.15am and we expect to be back around
5.00pm. All that the Cubs will need for
the day is their waterproofs, boots or really strong trainers (boots are better
and definitely no wellies), a packed lunch and a rucksack. The Cubs will be shown how to pack a rucksack
for a days hike on Wednesday and should pack their own bag (parental
supervision may be required as smuggled contraband could need to be removed!)
The cost for this will be £5
(Spending money is optional but there will be a chance for the Cubs to purchase drinks or an ice-cream at Housesteads.)

If
you would like your child to take part then please can you complete the
permission slip on the letter emailed to you all and contact return it by Wednesday 12th September along
with your payment. We appreciate that
this is a tight timescale but to get the best price we need to confirm our bus
size this week. If you have any
questions or queries please feel free to contact me.
